Mullumbimby Show

The Show this year was held on the weekend of the 14th and 15th of November, and was kicked off with an impressive and vocal truck parade through the main street of town.

At the showground visitors were greeted by smiling ticket sellers and friendly stall holders.  We browsed the motorcycle display, the wonderful flowers, fruit, vegies and baked goods, pet area, and, my favourite, the poultry (won by the prettiest hen I have ever seen).

We wandered over to the equestrian events and, in the shade of the mighty figs, watched the beautiful mounts and their riders complete their paces. A furry toy was then won for me by my companion at the shooting gallery, a yummy hot spud consumed, followed by a stroll through the rest of the stalls, filled with stuff that makes you go "aaaaaaaahh".

I have been lucky enough to experience many rural shows. It is not so much what is offered but what these events represent that is so important to me.  It is an opportunity for the community to pat itself on the back for the wonderful produce it grows, animals it rears, riding skills it develops, and crafts it creates.  It reminds us how precious it is to live, work and play in such a community. It puts a big smile on your face.  So I'll see you there next year. Go and win a furry toy.
